I Used My Marketing and Messaging Expertise to Completely Rebrand an E-Commerce Startup in Under Six Weeks

Building a brand is one of the most exciting things about helping tech startups. Watching that branding bring in genuine results is a real high point. Here’s what happened when my team and I undertook the task of transforming an e-commerce tech startup’s brand messaging in just six weeks.

Challenges: Standing Out in Crowded Marketplaces

All startups have to approach marketing and branding with small budgets and, in many cases, limited experience in this field. Tech innovators aren’t always going to be marketing experts, which is why many opt to work with freelancers or a Fractional CMO (chief marketing officer).

It’s a sad fact that around 90% of startups fail, with 10% failing within their first year. One of the top reasons for failure is being overtaken by competitors—a powerful reason for startups to build a compelling brand.

Solutions: Visuals and Messaging

That’s exactly what we wanted to do for this e-commerce client who is revolutionizing reverse logistics, providing innovative returns solutions for retailers. However, they needed assistance with strong brand messaging and visuals in order to pitch to potential clients and investors with confidence and clarity.

In under six weeks, my team and I got to work and built an entire brand identity for this e-commerce startup. We gave them a new logo, color palette, and a complete style guide to allow them to continuously update all their digital assets.

We also revitalized the company name, description, elevator pitch, and many more aspects of the overall messaging framework. The new brand is polished and highly appealing to its target audience, which we also helped define more sharply.

Success: Meaningful Connections and Leads

Measuring branding success is about understanding how many more people your company is reaching and how this translates into financial gain. Since my team and I transformed the brand, the company has reached more prospective clients, brought in more leads, and, in the words of their CEO, is connecting “…with investors and customers in a more meaningful way.”

The results? This innovative tech startup has now closed a $4.5 million round of funding and is listed as one of the most promising startups of 2023.
